The steeper the slope, the more sunny or shady it will be. A south- or west-facing slope will be not only warm and sunny, it will also be very dry because winds in our area generally come from the southwest and west during the growing season.
- The San Francisco Peaks are massive. It’s easy to assume that if we can see them, we must be facing north. If you live on a slope, be sure which direction your slope faces by using a compass, gps, or smartphone.
- Measure the percentage of your slope by dividing the rise (y) by the run (x)… 6 ÷ 20 = .3
- Multiply the result by 100… 0.3 X 100 = 30%
